Over two days learn to make your own drawing materials from locally foraged sources, and use each material to explore a different element of life drawing.
Through a combination of traditional techniques and experimental approaches you will be guided through four fundamental areas of drawing the human figure; gesture, contour, shadow and composition. In order to assist your exploration of each topic we will create a material from local or foraged materials that will compliment the drawing approach. Gesture will be explored with the assistance of home made ink, contour with a pastel stick, shadow with charcoal and composition with the assistance of watercolour. Through the creation of these materials we will examine connection to place, and the significance of the human form in relation to the materials with which it is depicted.
Each day will comprise of four hours of drawing and two hours of making materials, spread throughout the workshop. Additional supplementary materials and equipment will also be provided.
The workshop will start on Friday evening with a drinks reception and time to make charcoal for use the following day. Saturday and Sunday will run from 10am to 4.30pm, with an hour’s break for lunch.
