Stop-Motion Animation Workshop: Create your own short animated film, make friends and see your imaginations come to life!

About this event

Stop Motion Animation for 7 to 12-year-olds, aims to teach children the Stop Motion technique of creating animated films. We use a software called 'Dragonframe', which was used to create films you may know such as 'Coraline' or 'Shawn the Sheep'. Stop Motion is where we capture many images to make things come to life, they may be characters you've designed or just everyday objects.

You'll learn from a professional animator and work in small teams.

Children's animations will then be uploaded online for the rest of their family and friends to watch!

Filmmaking is a great way to develop skills such as communication, storytelling, teamwork, creativity, computing, literacy, storytelling, and problem-solving! The main thing is it's so much fun and seeing your ideas on screen coming to life is amazing.

This course is suitable for complete beginners and children who have experience already in animation. It's another opportunity to build on their creative and technical skills while having fun!

Timings: The workshops run from 10 am till 2.30 pm each day, that's on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd of August.

Toys, Lego, and what we'll be animating: We encourage children to think of their own characters but if they have some lego or toys they want to see alive on screen, they are more than welcome to bring them. We have plenty of card, paper, and plasticine to use in the animation process! We can't be held responsible if they lose or break their toys

Workshops are at the Quaker Meeting House, in the center of Chelmsford. There is a free car park and a large garden for children to have fun in.

The Quaker Meeting House is a short walk from Chelmsford Bus Station and Chelmsford Railway Station.

Lunch: Please pack your child a lunch and a drink.

Artimate's Mission: We want the animation and film courses we run to be accessible to all, so if you'd like a bursary place and your child receives free school meals please email us we give away at least two per workshop, sometimes more depending on the demand.

We welcome children with learning/physical disabilities but please let us know so we can adjust the workshop and get facilities in place to support your child.

Please note:

*Adults won't be able to take part in the workshop.

*A film of the animation will be published online after the workshop to share with friends and family.

* If your child suffers from any learning difficulty they are welcomed but please let us know so we can adapt as best possible. If you think that they will struggle with Teamwork, then this course may not be the most suitable for them.

* All staff are fully enhanced DBS checked

* Age Groups, we aim to keep age groups roughly in the same working groups but listen to the children's views when deciding which groups children work with.

* Full social distancing will be encouraged, as we are outside masks are not enforced but we welcome the personal choice of wearing masks or not.

* Children will work in small groups

*Email: victoria@artimate.co.uk if you have any questions.
