Join us for this 2-day Lead Facilitator course, designed to equip professionals with the skills, confidence and understanding to deliver the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism (Tier 2) — the government-endorsed training now required by law under the Health and Care Act 2022.

This practical and reflective course is aimed at:

What to Expect

Day 1 – Experiencing the Training

Facilitating trainers will experience the full Part Two of the Oliver McGowan Tier 2 training as it is expected to be delivered to staff. This includes:

  • Morning session: Learning Disability
  • Afternoon session: Autism

The session will be co-facilitated with Experts with lived experience. Attendees should make notes and reflect on any delivery-related questions to bring forward on Day 2.

Day 2 – Preparing to Deliver the Tier 2 The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training

This day focuses on exploring the content, structure, and facilitation techniques required to deliver the Tier 2 training.

  • Morning session:
    • In-depth review of the Learning Disability module
    • Common delegate questions and how to respond
    • Understanding co-facilitation expectations
  • Afternoon session:
    • In-depth review of the Autism module
    • Question-handling and facilitation discussion
    • Role of the co-trainer with lived experience

Course Aims and Objectives

This course is designed to:

  • Enhance understanding of learning disability and autism
  • Familiarise participants with the full Tier 2 training content
  • Promote the value of co-production and co-facilitation
  • Build confidence and competence in delivering the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training

  • Be equipped to co-deliver the Oliver McGowan Tier 2 training in line with national standards
  • Understand the structure, sequence, and delivery expectations of the learning disability and autism modules
  • Know how to work in partnership with co-trainers with lived experience

  • Feel confident in delivering training that is accessible, inclusive, and impactful
