Become a Youth Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider)

This online event will occur via Zoom, through our learning hub.

Starting at 9:15 AM and ending at 5:00 PM both days.

This is an in-depth look at young people's mental health and the factors that can effect wellbeing. This course gives you the skills to support young people's mental health, understand the early warning signs and provide first aid. The training is in-depth but our experienced instructors keep this light and incredibly thought-provoking.

Who should take take these courses? Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses are for everyone who works with, lives with or supports young people aged 8-18.

You will learn about common conditions including anxiety, depression and self-harm and gain skills to talk to young people about their mental health and guide them to appropriate support. The course's core principles are built around effective, early intervention and accessing the right support.

The MHFA programme is practiced worldwide and certification is recognised in over 25 countries. The training is evidence-based, grounded in research and designed to be easily digested and incredibly thought-provoking.

Learners will gain:

  • An in-depth understanding of young people’s mental health and factors that affect wellbeing.
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues.
  • Confidence to reassure and support a young person in distress.
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening.
  • Knowledge to help a young person recover their health by guiding them to further support – whether that’s through self-help sites, their place of learning, the NHS, or a mix – engaging with parents, carers and external agencies where appropriate.
