Event description

Description

A 2 day guide as to why and how a professional brand and logo impacts on customers and the perception of a business.

Great logos don’t just look good, they communicate, inspire and involve… most importantly, they inform. Branding is the basis for all other forms of company marketing and promotion with everything visually satelliting from this central core.

This is a two part workshop and you will need to commit to attending both sessions.

Day 1 will explore the mechanics of logos and expose why just a font and a colour is not nearly enough in a competitive market. We will discover how to add personality and dynamics to a logo and how to produce a unique mark that is scalable, by exploring the positive and negative spaces and how these change at different sizes. We will also look at how logos need to be reproduced across numerous formats be that digital, print, screen, embroidery etc.

Day 2 will offer a chance to review some logos and brands giving the attendees an opportunity to critique with their new found knowledge. We will also explore the introduction of an icon to a typographic solution and the pros and cons. The day will then move on to the practical and allow attendees to create or at least evolve a brand or logo (their own if possible) - this will give an opportunity to stand out from their competition and communicate their products and services more effectively.

This will by no means be a design lesson, but instead delegates will leave with a thorough understanding of the branding requirements for their business and an ability to brief third party with confidence if they can’t complete the artwork themselves.

David Major graduated in Graphic Design from De Montfort University and was offered a position at the prestigious Thumb Design Partnership in Soho managing accounts for the likes of Thomson’s Holidays and HMV. Moving on to Pointer Communications as a senior designer David oversaw projects for Black & Decker and numerous Banking institutions. With the onset of digital design David was invited to join TMW to help set up their creative team working on branding exercises with British Airways, L’Oreal, St John’s Ambulance and a variety of high street brands.

In 1990 David launched the full service design and marketing agency Creative Direction. Since then the company has developed the broadest range of clients that has included Grosvenor House, Waitrose, M&S, Hambros Bank, Rodda’s, HSBC, Aloha, C-Skins and Kelly’s Ice Cream.

In order to attend this workshop you must:
  • Be a trading creative business with products and/or services ready for sale
  • Be trading business to business
  • Have been trading for a minimum of 12 months
  • Be based in Leicester and Leicestershire

There will be a maximum of ten places on this course to allow for individual attention. If you cannot commit to attend both sessions, please do not sign-up. Only one place is available per business.

This workshop is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Leicester City Council.
