About this event

September marks the 40th anniversary of the discovery of the wreck of the Titanic. It was this that sparked off Richard M Jones’ journey into researching shipwrecks and disasters.

Author and historian Richard Jones has dedicated his life to research of shipwrecks and other historic disasters that history may have overlooked. Over 30 years of research has resulted in an extensive archive of shipwrecks, 24 published books and 19 successful memorial campaigns, with more books due out this year.

Two new books, related to the Titanic, will be hot off the press in time for his talk for HODs!

In these books, as in his talk, Richard explores the search for the wreck and also the ships that went to the Titanic’s rescue. He will include some of the local links to this historic story.

Duration Approx: 60 minutes

Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the start time to get seated and comfy. The bar will be open for hot and cold drinks before and after the talk. The Alverbank is a Grade 2 listed building with stunning views across the Solent.

There is a small carpark at the Alverbank, but your vehicle registration MUST be given at Reception. Other carparks along Stokes Bay Road, just a few minutes walk away.

Heritage Open Days is England's biggest heritage festival, this year on 12th - 21st September. It celebrates our fantastic history, architecture and culture; offering people the chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences - all of which are FREE to explore.

After a first pilot in Gosport proved a success, Heritage Open Days was established in 1994 as England’s contribution to the European Heritage Days.

We welcome people from near and far to join in and explore the wealth of heritage in Gosport; our little town with a big history.
