Event description

Description

Come and join us for a FREE lecture by Dr Michael Lewis, Head of the Portable Antiquities and Treasure at The British Museum, to mark the opening of a new exhibition at The Oxfordshire Museum.

'20 Years of Treasure' marks the anniversary of the Treasure Act 1996 being introduced in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and showcases some of Oxfordshire’s most amazing Treasure finds. As part of a nationwide celebration being led by the British Museum, the exhibition will explore the huge impact that both the Treasure Act and the Portable Antiquities Scheme have had on the County’s archaeological collection and its contribution to our understanding of Oxfordshire’s history.

'20 Years of Treasure' can be seen from 23rd September 2017 to 31st March 2018.

Dr Lewis will be speaking about some of the amazing finds that have been recorded through the Scheme, not only in Oxfordshire, but across the country and afterwards will formally open the exhibition.
