Description

200 Years of Frankenstein with Philip Pullman, Miranda Seymour, Andy Sawyer

200 years ago, when she was eighteen, challenged by the poets Shelley and Byron to write a ghost story, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley wrote a story she later expanded into a novel, about a scientist who created life and then was horrified by what he had produced. Described by Brian Aldiss as the first true science fiction novel, Frankenstein has been very influential in literature and popular culture, spawning a genre of horror stories, films and plays.

Miranda Seymour, author of the acclaimed Life of Mary Shelley, and Andy Sawyer, Frankenstein expert and University of Liverpool Science Fiction Collections Librarian will discuss the legacy of Frankenstein.
