'Knowing Autism' - Professor Liz Pellicano

Can non-autistic scientists ever really understand what autistic people and their families need from their research? That’s a question that activists and community groups have been asking with increasing vigour over recent years.

In what will be the Centre for Research in Autism and Education (CRAE) 8th Annual Lecture, world-renowned researcher and departing CRAE Director, Professor Liz Pellicano, looks back at her years at the Centre to investigate, in depth, what the autistic community rightly demands of autism research and the major changes that will need to be made to deliver on their expectations.

Liz trained as an educational psychologist in Perth, Australia, where she also completed her PhD, before becoming a Junior Research Fellow in Psychiatry at the University of Oxford and Lecturer in Experimental Psychology at the University of Bristol. Among all of her successes, Liz’s greatest passion is for working alongside autistic people, their families and friends, in the work that she does. After over 4 years as Director of CRAE and 8 years at the UCL Institute of Education, she is moving on to take up a new post as Professor at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia in early October this year.

Please join us for this special, free-to-attend event, on such a crucial topic, and to wish Liz all the best in her new Australian adventure.

Liz will speak for 45 minutes and we will be serving light refreshments following the lecture.

We very much look forward to seeing you there!
