2017 Darwin Dinner
Fri 17 February 2017, 18:00 – 22:30 GMT
Hertford College Darwin Dinner 2017 – Friday 17th February 2017
You are cordially invited to the annual Darwin Dinner for the Hertford ‘Life Sciences’ community, loosely based around the undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry, Biology, and Human Sciences. This is an opportunity for current students, both graduate and undergraduate, to meet up in an informal setting with recent alumni. It is always well-attended and very enjoyable. We value your input in developing our subject-based academic and professional Hertford network: our students are facing a challenging employment market and often tell us that talking to recent graduates who have had a similar training at university to themselves, and who have taken a variety of professional and life decisions after Oxford is extremely valuable, as well as great fun. There are always many ‘College Family’ reunions!
As in previous years, we will be holding a careers discussion at 6pm for current Undergraduates before dinner, focussed on careers in research (previous years have covered teaching and medicine) and will invite one or two recent alums to share their experiences with us. This will be followed by drinks for all attending the dinner at 6.45pm and dinner at 7.15pm.
The guest of honour this year is Professor Marian Stamp Dawkins CBE, FRS who will be saying a few words about her career in biological sciences at the end of the meal.
The cost of the dinner will be £25 per person for alumni and £15 for students, and the dress code is smart/casual. If you would like to attend please RSVP before Friday 12th February (Darwin’s 208th birthday!). Given that the timing of this dinner is during term time it is not possible to offer overnight accommodation in the College, but we hope that this won't prevent those from outside Oxford joining us.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to the Darwin Dinner,
Alison Woollard, Martin Maiden, Clive Hambler
