Event description

Join LTF Conference on Friday 7th July from 9.30am to 4pm at York St John University.

The main focus of the conference is on Reasoning and Let's Think impact evidence. Anita Backhouse will open the conference by placing Let's Think into its historical context and highlighting the growing impact evidence that first began with Cognitive Acceleration through Science Education (CASE).

This conference offers a range of strategies to primary and secondary schools seeking to develop their pupils' reasoning skills in English, mathematics and science. Workshops include a range of practical strategies and activities to support the development of reasoning skills including metacognition and critical thinking, all drawing on best practice from research.

During this one-day conference, we welcome our keynote speaker:

Geoff PettyGeoff Petty who will describe an example lesson which uses the Cognitive Accceleration approach. He will outline the most impressive findings of research on CA, and show how the methodology can be adapted to teach conceptually difficult topics.

Geoff is the author of 'Teaching Today' (5th edition) a best selling teacher training text in the UK. His most recent book ‘Evidence Based Teaching’, now in its 2nd edition, summarises the extensive research on the best teaching methods strategies and techniques. His books have been translated into eight languages including Chinese and Russian, and his ideas are used at a national level in Britain, Romania and Lithuania. He has a reputation for explaining issues concerning learning and teaching in a down to earth, but lively and inspiring way.

Geoff has worked for most of the national organisations associated with education, including Departments of Education and as a Visiting Examiner at the Institute of Education. He has led more than 500 training sessions in colleges and schools, usually on the most effective teaching methods, and on learning to learn.

His website, www.geoffpetty.com, has lots of free downloads on it, and gets visited thousands of times a week. He can be followed on twitter: @geoffreypetty

You will have an opportunity to take part in different workshops and hear from LTF leads who will be reporting back on their research project findings and from Let's Think Tutors who will share their insights and will answer your questions.
