Thu 25 May 2017, 09:00 – 14:00 WAT
The 2017 (8th edition) National Youth Summit on Crime Prevention will be hosted in partnership with the Nigerian Institute of International Affair, NIIA as a soft power approach in the fight against crime in response to the multiple cases of criminal activities being experienced today in Nigeria.
The high increase rate of criminal activities which cuts across kidnapping, campus cultism, human trafficking/illegal migration, cybercrime, armed robbery, drug abuse/illicit trafficking, militancy, insurgency and terrorism with young people as key actor’s calls for great concern.
Most communities and institutions across Nigeria today are living in abject fear due to high rate of insecurity which can be traced from the criminal activities of some on scrupulous elements, especially young people.
The Summit is one of our adopted crime fighting methods which affords young people the opportunity to understand the consequences of their crime related activities, with the aim of educating them on the advantages of preventive approach in the fight against crime.
The Summit is designed to bring 500 youth leaders across the country together for the purpose of educating and exposing them to the realities of the consequences and repercussions associated with them involved in criminal activities. Youth leaders will have the opportunity to interact and share ideas with crime prevention experts locally and internationally.
It will also create a platform that will inspire and develop the capacity of young people in the fight against crime, as well as make them become change agents and crime prevention ambassadors in their various communities.
