2017 NW Transport Lecture: The Environmental Challenges of Transport
Thu 27 April 2017, 17:45 – 20:30 BST
This year’s North West Annual Transport Lecture will deal with meeting the environmental challenges around transport. From resilience against increasingly frequent extreme weather evenets through to planning to limit adverse air quality effects of transport growth, to sustainable energy and climate change initiatives based around changing people’s travel behaviour: all these remain crucial to the planning, design and management of our transport networks and assets.
The 2017 lecture is organised by the Transport Engineering Group (TEG) of the ICE with RTPI, TPS, CILT and CIHT and, for the second year running the event will celebrate the life and career of Alan Stilwell FICE, a former chair of the TEG – who passed away in 2015 after a distinguished career serving Cheshire County Council, Merseytravel and others.
Following introductory presentations by our expert speakers, there will be a Q&A discussion to allow questions and in-depth debate on the issues raised.
Chair: John Gatheral, Chair of ICE North West Regional Committee
Professor Jillian Anable, Chair of Transport and Energy, Institute of Transport Studies, University of Leeds
Matthew O’Neill, Air Quality Manager, Transport for Greater Manchester
Dave Colbert, Specialist Advisor – Transport Planning, Lancashire County Council
Light refreshments will be provided from 5.45pm and the lecture will start at 6.30pm.
