Event description

Description

The 2017 Thornberry Lecture in International Law and Human Rights will be delivered by Prof. Fareda Banda (SOAS) on the topic 'Gender, Race and Human Rights: From Margin to Centre with Patrick Thornberry'.

The lecture will take place on Wednesday 26 April 2017, 4-6pm, in room CBA 1.103. It will be followed by a drinks reception.

ABSTRACT:

This lecture, a tribute to the work of Patrick Thornberry, takes as its starting point bell hooks’ ‘From Margin to Centre’. Combining the insights provided by Patrick Thornberry and his colleagues on the Race Committee with diasporic literature and case law, the lecture explores two key developments in feminist and human rights discourse: intersectionality and transformative equality’
