Description

Do you have a child who has type 1 diabetes?

Would you like to access more in depth education about diabetes in an environment where you can meet other children and families in the same situation? If so we have the perfect opportunity for you!

Our network family diabetes camp will begin on the Friday 23rd August 2019 at 11am.

Over the course of the weekend the whole family will be able to participate in a range of education sessions on a wide range of topics related to diabetes. You will also all be able to participate lots of the adventure activities that PGL have on offer.

  • Education sessions being offered over the course of the weekend will include:

  • Understanding Diabetes

  • Carbohydrate Counting

  • Injection technique and insulin adjustment

  • Debriefing the diagnosis journey

  • Diabetes and Technology

  • Travelling with Diabetes

  • Growing up and becoming a teenager with diabetes

  • A tree of life session for the children and young people with type 1

  • Discussion groups facilitated by families who have been diagnosed for a number of years

  • Having a sibling with type 1

  • A dads discussion session

  • A mum’s discussion session

Some of these sessions will be for the whole family, some for siblings, some for parents on their own, some for the mums, some for the dads and of course some targeted at the child with type 1. How much your children are able to participate in these sessions is of course dependent on their age.

The sessions will be led by diabetes health care professionals including PDSN’s, dieticians, psychologists and doctors. Some sessions will also be facilitated by parents whose children have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes for a number of years.

Accommodation for the weekend will be in family rooms with en suite bathroom facilities. All catering will be provided by the amazing team at PGL who have years of experience of catering for people with dietary requirements and carb counting for children with type 1.

Prior to attendance on the weekend we will send you a questionnaire to complete about your currently level of diabetes knowledge understanding. You can also use this form to highlight any issues and topics that you would like us to cover in the course of the weekend.

We currently have space for 25 families to attend the camp – these will be offered on a first come, first served basis.
