Event description
We are looking for RIBs or similar low freeboard safety boats to support the 2020 Great River Race on the River Thames on the 5th Sept.

About this Event

The Great River Race is a 21.6 mile rowing marathon along the tidal River Thames in London from Dockland to leafy Richmond Upon Thames.

This year it’s being held on Saturday the 5th of September and we need 35 safety boats to help the 2500 people in 360 traditional rowing boats get to the finish safely.

If you have a RIB or similar low freeboard boat and would like to volunteer to support this event we'd love to hear from you and you can register via this Eventbrite website.

As you can imagine we have set some minimum standards for the volunteer safety boats. These are;

  1. Every safety boat must be more than 4m long
  2. Every safety boat must have two people onboard.
  3. The crew must have RYA Safety Boat Qualification (or similar) with supporting experience.

In return the organisers of the Great River Race will cover your;

  1. fuel expenses of your car getting your boat to and from the event
  2. boat fuel whilst at the event,
  3. provide camping free of charge the night before and after the race,
  4. mid river moorings for Friday and Saturday in Petersham
  5. bacon rolls on the Saturday morning.

We can also help you out with launching, car parking and cost effective local hotels if camping isn't your thing! So please do consider taking part in the 2020 Great River Race, London’s other Marathon!

We hope to hear from you soon.
