Event description
The Housing Forum National Conference is our fast-expanding flagship event and the premier cross-sector housing event in the UK.

About this Event

Our 2020 National Conference will be held as a semi-virtual event. On 20 October, speakers and a limited number of guests will attend at a venue, and delegates will view the event online in a professionally filmed and broadcast format.

This expands on the format of our hugely successful Spring/early Summer webinars attended by over 1,000 delegates in a trend which has seen us more than double physical event attendance.

OUTLINE AGENDA

The conference comes as a unique set of events reshapes our future – the impact of the Covid-19 crisis, the resetting of safety obligations, and the post-Brexit housing market. The whole-day event will start with a Plenary Session, followed by four consecutive Streams on Procurement; Productivity; Partnership Working; and Quality and Standards.

Throughout the day there will be Q&A from members at the event and those attending online.

Key note and other speakers to be announced in coming weeks.

PLENARY SESSION

Shaping Our Future Housing – Towards ‘A Quality Home For All’

Our Plenary Session will focus on the new landscape for achieving a quality home for all; how Covid-19 has driven new ways of working; and how the sector can find a way through to building the affordable homes the country needs.

The impact of recent Government stimulus and policy changes will be debated, with a view to giving fresh focus to The Housing Forum’s vision of A Quality Home For All. This session will be informed by a member status survey giving an up-to-date picture of how members are faring and their vision for the future.

STREAMS

Speakers will address important issues in four consecutive Streams throughout the day:

Procurement

Including the launch of The Housing Forum 2020 Guide to Procurement. This will follow the key elements of the guide: Project Vision; Forming The Team; Procuring Good Design; Cost and Risk Management; Contract Methodology; and What Have We Learned From The Coronavirus Pandemic?

Productivity

Reflecting new on-site working practices and how organisations have streamlined with new processes, increased use of technology and ongoing home working. The increased focus on MMC to support productivity and safer working practices will also be debated, reprising the series of three webinars held on this topic by The Housing Forum attracting some 300 online delegates earlier in 2020.

Partnership Working

Reviewing what we have learned about increased collaboration through The Housing Forum’s series of webinars and conferences with significant input from both the private and public sector. The sometimes hidden ‘value’ of partnership working will also be evaluated, with an update on Local Authority housebuilding programmes.

Quality and Standards

This stream will review the pressures on quality homes and refurbishment programmes in the new economic environment. Achieving Net Zero in the new reality will also be debated, as will the reseating of safety obligations.
