About this event

THIS IS A PROVISIONAL DATE as RUSI will be undergoing major building refurbishment which were delayed starting in 2020.

Founded in 1831 by the Duke of Wellington, RUSI has throughout its almost 190 years remained faithful to its heritage and founding principles to generate rational and free-thinking debate on issues of security and defence. Their historic headquarters are steeped in history, being the old Whitehall Palace. Our tour will include the RUSI Library of Military History, a unique collection of historical and cultural importance. Refreshments available.

Organiser The Thorney Island Society

Organiser of 2022 Visit to RUSI (Royal United Services Institute) Whitehall - SOLD OUT

Most of our visits are open to all unless specified.  We hope non members will enjoy our Programme and consider joining the Society.  We are a charity and do not receive any local or government funding so please consider supporting our work.

We are named after the ancient island formed by the Thames and Tyburn rivers where Westminster Abbey and Parliament now stand.  We formed in 1985, saving from demolition, London's first public library in Great Smith Street and we respond on behalf of residents and businesses to local planning applications in the area.  Our 300+ members enjoy local visits, talks, walks, newsletters and social events.  We also have an archive of books, prints and other items relating to the area.  Please visit our website.
