The Department of Law is delighted to be hosting Professor Rahel Jaeggi (Berlin) as our 9th Lecturer in the Cotterrell Lectures in Sociological Jurisprudence.

Rahel Jaeggi is Professor of Practical Philosophy at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. In Berlin, Professor Jaeggi directs of the Center for Humanities and Social Change, which focuses on the crises of capitalism and democracy. Her research focuses on social philosophy, political philosophy, ethics, philosophical anthropology, social ontology, and critical theory. Her works include: Critique of Forms of Life (2018); Alienation (2014); and a conversation with Nancy Fraser on Capitalism (2018).

The Cotterrell Lectures in Sociological Jurisprudence are named in honour of Professor Roger Cotterrell. ‘Sociological jurisprudence’ is understood broadly, as encompassing any theoretical aspect of socio-legal studies, any serious effort to relate jurisprudence and legal theory to changing social and historical conditions, or any topic linking law and social theory.
