Announcing the 2026 MQ Research Fellowship awards

The Fellows Award supports the best and brightest early career scientists from across the globe, who are asking challenging questions that will contribute to transformative advances in mental health research.

If you are mental health researcher, working in any scientific discipline, and are 3-7 years post doc, then join us to learn how you can apply for a prestigious MQ Research Fellowship.

What are the MQ Fellowship awards?

The MQ Fellowships are grants of up to £250,000 across three years, for mental health researchers exploring specific areas of mental health.

This year we are particularly interested in supporting high-calibre research in the following areas:

  • Children & young peoples mental health
  • Eating disorders
  • AI and digital health
  • Preventing premature mortality associated with SMIs
  • EMDR therapy*

*This year we have an exciting opportunity for researchers studying EMDR therapy. Please note funding for this area is only open to applicants from the USA and Canada.

Who are the MQ Fellowships for?

The MQ Fellowship awards support early career researchers (at least 3 years post PhD or equicvilant doctorate) who wish to establish their independence.

The onus is on applicants to demonstrate that they are at the appropriate career stage.

They must:

  • have a PhD, DPhil, DClinPsy, MBBS, MD or equivalent
  • have accumulated 3-7 years whole-time-equivalent research experience, equivalent in nature to postdoctoral research
  • be able to show that this award will help to establish independence relative to current position
  • further criteria applies
