WHAT IS THE 2030 SDGs GAME?
It's a multiplayer, card-based game that simulates taking the “real world” into the year 2030.
In the game participants work together and in groups. We explore how the world can achieve sustainability goals - or fail to.
This game is hosted by Oxford Wood Recycling.
Oxford Wood Recycling (OWR) is a popular and award winning social enterprise based in Abingdon, helping to protect our natural environment and relieving unemployment among people facing barriers to working. Having played the SDGs Game themselves OWR were enthusiastic to become a partner in this global movement. CEO Richard Snow told us, “the SDGs provide an inspirational global context for our environmental and social objectives and the Game provides a great opportunity for us to engage further with our local community”.
The workshop will be facilitated by Nathaniel Whitestone and supported by Peter Burke - co-founders of A Fairer Society who are the UK's first facilitators.
WHO CAN COME?
You can! Anyone can! This game has been played by the senior management of top 10 global companies, by secondary school students, by activists, government officials, and everyone in between.
This is an innovative, unique and highly collaborative approach to real world issues.
The more diverse the game participants are, the more representative of society it is.
WHAT EFFECT DOES THE GAME HAVE?
Participants experience a change in perspective. Most players finish the game feeling excited, connected and ready to take action.
Players often ask, “What can I do next to make a difference?”
Players finish the game with an understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals, and ways the world can achieve them. But the change in attitude and worldview is the most significant effect.
WHERE HAS THE GAME COME FROM?
The game was made by Imacocollabo, a company that focuses on international collaboration.
Designed in Japan in 2016, this experience has become a powerful and impactful social phenomenon in Japan. Earning extensive media coverage and reaching over 30,000 participants last year.
Now, due to a growing demand to bring the game to the rest of the world. Imacocollabo have created an English version. The UK is the beginning of introducing to a wider audience globally.
