20in20 for the MS Trust: Georgian Westminster: Gallantry, Gaiety and Gin
Thu 25 May 2017, 20:00 – 22:00 BST
The 18th Century was riddled with decadence, humour, and sin which can be seen in its exaggerated fashions, satires and in London's streets. Today the area is inundated with tourist haunts, but in the Georgian era its visitors and locals were doing quite a different type of sightseeing!
Beginning with London's highest courtesans who hobnobbed with aristocratic neighbours, we will venture through the century to the back streets where many were born in to the bowels of society. We will visit an altogether well-known part of London which bears a far more salacious past and discover those who rose above it all, laughing; and the many others who fell from grace. We will breathe life back into the taverns and brothels that once supplied London's lecherous appetite and even learn where Casanova purchased his... supplies.
The Georgian Westminster tour will meet outside the Green Park exit at Green Park Station and will take approximately two hours. As there will be one or two visits to a pub along the way, this tour is suitable for only those aged 18 and over. You may wish to order a Gin to really get in the Georgian mood, however the drink is not included in the price of the tour.
