Event description

Description

Think 50 years into the future – what will our cities be built of? Where will we get our food from? How will doctors keep us healthy? Join former Christmas Lecturer Mark Miodownik to look into these questions, and more, by exploring some of the amazing and exciting materials which will help build our future.

This event is particularly suitable for ages 7+

Mark Miodownik is an engineer and scientist. He received his PhD in turbine jet engine alloys from Oxford University in 1996. Mark is a materials engineer and Professor of Materials and Society at UCL where he teaches and runs a research group. In 2003 he co-founded Materials Library which has been actively researching the senso-aesthetic properties of materials to understand why materials feel, smell and taste the way they do. This work has resulted in collaborations with designers, architects, artists, as well as many museums, such as the Tate Modern, the Hayward Gallery and the Wellcome Collection. In 2010, Mark presented the CHRISTMAS LECTURES here at the Ri, and is a regular presenter of science and engineering BBC TV programmes.

Discounted tickets are available to Members of the Ri. Find out more about how to join our community.
