Join us on the 23rd Levantine Heritage Foundation dinner and talks gathering where we will update you on projects and the development as we head towards our 3 day conference in London in November this year and other events.
Talks and dinner evening Thursday 7th September 2016, at the Royal Thames Yacht Club, 60 Knightsbridge, London SW1X 7LF, with the talks starting at 6 pm.
Charles Newton, ‘Count Amadeo Preziosi: Levantines Observed’
Amadeo, Count Preziosi moved from his native Malta in 1842 and settled in Istanbul, abandoning his training in the law to become a painter of the very diverse population of that city, until his death in 1882. He was the artist to whom most visitors would go when they desired an accurate picture as a keepsake of their visit. His quirky and brilliantly coloured portraits of the citizens and their lives are a valuable resource now for historians and collectors alike.
Malcolm Billings, ‘Vartan of Nazareth’
Dr Pacradooni Kaloost Vartan was the son of an Armenian tailor, born in Constantinople in 1835. He became a leading medical pioneer and the founding father of the Nazareth Hospital, an institution which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2012.
Please note the venue has a strict dress policy for gentlemen, jacket and tie please.
We look forward to meeting up with old friends and making acquaintances with new.
