Developing your management skills is part of a series of workshops designed to support the recently released online Managers toolkit.

About this event
Target Audience: All staff (Academic and Professional Services) with or taking on management/leadership responsibilities. This workshop may also provide a useful refresher for more experienced managers.
This workshop will support new or aspiring managers to understand the difference between leadership and management, whilst introducing leadership theories. Participants will also benefit from an opportunity to reflect on their own leadership/management style and identify areas they might want to develop or build on.
Please note, you will be asked to read through some pre-coursework in advance of this workshop.
Learning Outcomes:
- An introduction to management
- The difference between management and leadership
- An introduction to contemporary management and leadership theory
- An introduction to The Sussex Leader competency framework
- An opportunity to understand and develop your style as a manager

Late cancellations that leave places empty have considerable cost implications for the University and take away the opportunity for other staff members who might wish to attend. Given this, a late cancellation fee of £50 will be charged to your School or Division if you cancel your booking within three days of the course start date. Please let us know as soon as possible if you need to cancel your place by emailing od@sussex.ac.uk.
Exceptions may be made for illness, evidenced by your line manager or doctor's note, or a family emergency. We are happy for you to substitute your place if you notify us before the course commences.
