Event description

Description

2018 marks the 250th anniversary of the world’s very first ‘circus’ in London.

Local guide and historian Jiff Bayliss will recount tales and stories about the circus and circus acts in Islington from the ‘Aggie to Zippo via Joey’.

Find out about the circuses that performed in the world’s largest arena (at the time) and the internationally famous acts that appeared at this huge venue, as well as hearing about the life and times of the world’s most famous clown, Joseph Grimaldi (1778-1837), who worked and lived in Clerkenwell.

Presented in partnership with Islington Library and Heritage Service and Clerkenwell and Islington Guides Association (CIGA).
