Leicestershire Learning Support Team (LST) have developed materials to support primary SENCOs to identify cognition and learning needs linked to literacy difficulties / dyslexia, and to evidence and monitor adjustments made to support learners.
These materials reflect the ‘Assess, Plan, Do, Review’ graduated response to need, supporting SENCOs to employ best endeavours and reasonable adjustments in relation to the Inclusive Practice Toolkit.
The training focuses on the following areas:
- what a persistent literacy difficulty might look like with reference to the DELPHI study definition of dyslexia
- ways to identify needs linked to this profile
- ways to evidence and monitor adjustments
- using Learning Support Team informal assessments and sign posting to other relevant materials
- discussion of appropriate standardised assessments
The training and materials have been well received by SENCOs in Leicestershire.
Comments include:
- Practical, supportive training which will have a huge impact on the children.
- The training was exactly what I needed for school.
- Clear, concise and practical ideas.
- I think this should just be rolled out to all sencos every couple of years.
- So much amazing information and practical pieces of work that would have saved hours and hours!
This training has a KS2 focus.
For EYFS/KS1 we have developed 'Early Identification of Literacy Dificulties' training which provides similar information for identification and monitoring as well as ideas for support/ intervention for when phonics isn't working. Please access this training via Eventbrite.
For KS3/4 we have developed the ‘Creating Learning Profiles Dyslexia and Mental Health' materials which are more student focussed, and maybe more appropriate. Please access this support through Cognition amd Learning Surgeries bookable via Eventbrite.
We look forward to working with you.
