Despite access to well founded intervention (SSP), a number of our pupils continue to demonstrate bizarre and pre-phonetic spelling, and some can not get beyond phonetically plausible, yet inaccurate spelling.

This course focusses on developing knowledge, skills, and strategies to enable more effective spelling.

It investigates the part phonological awareness, orthographic skills, and morphological awareness together with some spelling rules play in spelling,. We discuss how to assess and develop these skills and to apply them to spelling.

Visual and multisensory strategies are crucial, and the course looks at how these run together with processing sounds when spelling.

Resources provided include informal assessments and analysis for phonological awareness, spelling of regular and high frequency words, phonic knowledge and skills, as well as those to support the learning process.

Spelling support is best delivered 1:1 but can easily be adapted for small groups.

We look forward to working with you.
