Top Triangle Reading Intervention (TTRI) is aimed at individual children and students who by KS2/3/4 have not learnt to read effectively despite access to well -founded intervention such as structured synthetic phonics.

Repeated failure over time often leads to disengagement from reading leaving little or any positive feeling towards reading or learning to read potentially creating levels of anxiety linked to reading.

In a1:1 scenario, the learner can lower defences that may have built up around reading failure, and experience small steps of success in learning to read in a relaxed and non-judgemental environment.

TTRI is learner centred, relevant to their interests, and aims to motivate the learner through successful reading experiences, developing self-esteem for reading.

TTRI supports the learner to build an orthographic vocabulary and increase understanding of texts. Word investigation includes phonics and phonological awareness at sound and syllable level, morphological awareness of root words and affixes, and parts of words that are irregular. Multi-sensory methods, over learning, consolidation, fluency, and ways to transfer learning back to the classroom are all built into the intervention. Comprehension includes encouraging self-monitoring, and considers texts at word, sentence, and text level.

A pilot conducted between 21-25 with fourteen upper KS2/ KS3 pupils have seen some modest to remarkable accelerated progress in all areas of reading, with overwhelmingly positive qualitative responses - details are shared during training.

It is designed to be delivered by TTRI trained teachers, SENCOs, and learning support staff.

Ideally, sessions take place two or three times weekly for 20 to 30minutes. Class teachers/tutors need to be supportive of independent over learning outside of the intervention sessions.

TTRI has encouraged young people to read for pleasure, increasing time spent reading, hence developing their reading brains.

We look forward to working with you soon.
