26 - Playtime Fun - Cardiff - 15 to 25 volunteers
Fri 12 May 2017, 09:00 – 17:00 BST
Ty Storrie Short Break Centre supports the needs of children aged 6 to 18 years
and also their families. The children who use the facilities have special needs
requirements which include autism, behavioural issues, severe disabilities etc.
In addition to the above facilities there is also an outside garden area approximately 22 x 22 metres in size. Although the area is in generally good condition it is in need of a makeover and improvement. This will make the garden more attractive and appealing to the residents encouraging them to engage in more outdoor activity. The area needs to be cleaned up with patio jet washed, metal railings and canopy frame can be repainted and existing wooden benches restained. There is also a table and bench set which could be replaced if possible. The corner area of the garden would also lend itself to the creation of a mini-beast/shrubbed area to include building of very basic wooden planters. This would enable the residents to grow herbs (sensory stimulation) and study the outdoor environment. The wooden fence which encloses the garden could also be made more attractive by adding a painted mural. There are also a swing and slide set which could be replaced if possible.
Creativity by volunteers would be welcome. Gardening Skills, Basic DIY and Woodworking skills. Some physical work. Number of volunteers 15 to 25 would be suitable. Volunteers will need to provide their own tools and materials. Fundraising would be required as Ty Storrie only have limited funds available approximately £50. Volunteers to wear robust outdoor clothing and shoes. Coffees and teas will be provided but volunteers to provide their own lunch. Adequate parking available
