27 - Help for Hengoed School Children - Cefn Hengoed - 10 Volunteers
Fri 12 May 2017, 09:00 – 17:00 BST
This Primary School is located in the deprived area of Cefn Hengoed with 32% of pupils eligible for Free School Meals.
Primary schools in deprived areas are finding that their pupils would benefit from being exposed to the world of work at an earlier age so they are inspired and made aware of the opportunities in their area. Employee volunteers could work with the school to plan a range of activities which could include any of the following:
1. World of Work activities to help pupils learn about your business, the roles available and the skills required.
2. Healthy eating workshop, volunteers could run activities with the children including quizzes and games to introduce children to new fruit and vegetables from around the world. BITC are able to offer some materials. Volunteers may wish to end the session by making a healthy snack with the children.
3. Class challenges/team building activities in the outdoor environment take place every Friday afternoon. The class teacher sets a practical challenge for the pupils which they have to complete in 45 minutes. Volunteers could work with the school to devise a challenge which volunteers can then help the children accomplish. The challenge could also tie in with an activity to improve pupil’s social skills with a particular focus on communication and team working.
