28 - Woodlanders Wanted - Newport - 20 Volunteers
Fri 12 May 2017, 09:00 – 17:00 BST
Woodland Park is a small park located about 100 metres to the west of the much bigger Beechwood Park in Newport. The park is owned by Newport city council, however due to ever increasing cutbacks it is being maintained less and less which has led to a small community group called the Woodlanders to step in to help maintain and enhance this small park.
Volunteer support is needed to paint gates and railings. Volunteers could also help concrete some steps (guidance will be provided on the day) also the woodlanders would like to install some plastic mesh to help encourage grass to grow in an area which is currently baron. The woodlanders would also like volunteers to help improve pathways and maintain the park by lopping back overgrown bushes and trees to keep the park looking nice.
- painting railings and gates
- painting benches and waste bin
- laying plastic grid paving for re-enforcing the ground at entrance to orchard
- relaying/repairing steps
- general snipping and tidying.
- a bit later in the year we should have some seedlings to plant.
Some materials will be provided but some contribution from volunteers may be required to complete all elements of the project.
