29 - Caring for Carers - Torfaen - 5 Volunteers

Torfaen Carers Centre is located in Pontypool town centre and offers support and advice for carers living across the borough. The centre was established in March 2005 and provides a one stop shop where carers can obtain information, advice and guidance to support them in their caring role
Carers are encouraged to call in for a coffee, chat and information when they are passing.
The centre provides emotional support as well as information about benefits, respite care, transportation and personal care, however there is currently only one (part time) paid member of staff which means the centre is reliant on volunteer support.

The centre would like volunteer support to upskill their 5 regular volunteers. The centre generates little income and is reliant on money from a trust. The centre manager would like strategic support to make the centre sustainable. The barrier that they have is that the current volunteers lack the confidence to organise and plan fundraising events.

The centre would like employee volunteers to help the centres volunteers plan a fundraising event.

We estimate that this project will require support from 3 -5 employee volunteers. An initital planning session could be scheduled to coincide with Give & Gain Day and then further ad hoc support offered on the lead up to a fundraising event later in the year.
