2nd Edition of Conference on Migration and Media Awareness

The CMMA2021 is a three - day conference that convenes approximately 250 participants from 4 continents, 20 countries and over 100 institutions to engage in discussions with key stakeholders (policymakers, educators, social workers, activists, bloggers, journalists, representatives of communities.

Through numerous workshops and podiums as well as exhibition, music and performance formats. The participants enter a discursive exchange on political moods and opinions in times of "Post Pandemic Era".

Methods are exchanged and strategies are developed to find a way to deal with media reporting on issues of migration, xenophobia, fake news, hate-speech and also de-colonizing cultural journalism with positive counter-narratives, social commitment, and exile-born creativity.

This year, CMMA2021 Conference will focus on the importance of inclusion, diversity, and participation within the Media and Art sector (community & mainstream).

The CMMA2021 sees media, arts, and culture as important enablers of freedom of expression, producers of counter alternative narratives, and promoters of media pluralism and cultural diversity.

AGENDA

The agenda includes 10 sessions split into four main areas addressing some of the most pressing issues of today.

• Media: Investigative Journalism and Community Media Countering Disinformation Through Media Literacy.
• Migration: Thanatopolitics - immigration and Racism
• International Affairs: Climate crisis and Pan Africanism.
• Culture & Arts: Decolonize cultural and media spaces, Strengthen and building alliances.

MODE OF CONFERENCE: To guarantee the health of everyone involved and ensure a high level of attendance from stakeholders around the world the event will be as follow: HYBRID In-person > with selected guest speakers and minimal audience in compliance with COVID 19 regulations in place by the city of Hamburg. Online > virtual via Zoom this year’s event presents a unique opportunity to learn from and engage with media leaders and experts, no matter where you are.
