The 2nd Newham Community Chess Tournament

A partnership between Chess in Schools & Communities and the London Borough of Newham

Saturday 21st Octorber 2017: The Old Town Hall, 29 Broadway, Stratford, London, E15 4BQ
An ECF rapidplay-graded six-round Swiss tournament for players of all ages and abilities.
Three Sections: Open, U-140, U-80

ECF Membership

Players in the Open and Major sections who are not ECF Platinum, Gold or Silver Members must pay an additional £7 'Pay-to-Play' fee (£5 for those aged under 18 on 31/08/2017). Late Entries

There will be an additional £5 late-entry fee for entries postmarked after 14th October 2017. No entries will be accepted on the day of the event.

Sections

Open: Open to all - 1st £200; 2nd £150; 3rd £100; | U180 Grading £75, £50, £25; U160 Grading £75, £50,£25 | Best Junior £50, £25
Major: Players graded under 140 - 1st £125; 2nd £100; 3rd £75 | U120 Grading £75, £50,£25 ; U100 Grading £75, £50, £25 | Best Junior £50, £25
Challengers: Players graded under 80, and beginners - Trophies, equipment and book prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, U50 Grading and Best Ungraded players.

The organiser reserves the right to alter the prize fund according to circumstances.

Grading & Section Eligibility

The Open and Major sections will be submitted for ECF Rapidplay grading. Eligibility for grade-limited sections will be determined in the following priority order:

  1. ECF Rapidplay Grade (July 2017)
  2. ECF Standardplay Grade (July 2017)
  3. FIDE Rapidplay Rating, converted by [FIDE-700]/7.5=ECF (October 2017)
  4. Other rating assigned by the organiser.

Ungraded players must provide details of their estimated playing strength with their entry.

Time Control:
The time control for all sections will be: all moves in 20 minutes, with a 10 second increment each move.

Round 1 10:00-11:00
Round 2 11:20-12:20
Round 3 12:40-13:40
Round 4 14:40-15:40
Round 5 16:00-17:00
Round 6 17:20-18:20
Prizegiving By 18:40

Pairings:
This is a Swiss tournament: all players play in all rounds. The tournament will be paired to FIDE Pairing Rules, using the Swiss Manager computer program.

A player whose opponent has not arrived 15 minutes after the advertised start time of a round should expect to be repaired if possible.

Disputes:
The Chief Arbiter will be Daniel Young, whose decision will be final on all matters related to the Laws of Chess or Swiss pairings.
