Photo essays by this year’s Winner and Honourable Mentions for the prestigious Marilyn Stafford FotoReportage Award, shining a light on people power.

Light The People is a photographic exhibition highlighting the work of winning photographer Jodi Windvogel and their photographic series ‘Life Under Occupation - Inside Cissie Gool House & Cape Town’s Housing Crisis’, alongside work by four photographers achieving Honourable Mentions.

‘Life Under Occupation’ documents daily life inside a former public hospital in Cape Town, occupied since 2017 by over 1,500 people resisting displacement. A photographic act of visual solidarity, the series invites a shifting of narratives, creating space for more inclusive, people-led futures.

Light The People additionally showcases photographs from the Award’s Honourable Mentions: Andrea Hernández Briceño, Anya Tsaruk, Greta Rico and Sylvia Jarrus.

The Marilyn Stafford FotoReportage Award is granted annually to a professional female photographer for a compelling documentary photo essay, addressing important social, environmental, economic, or cultural issues, facilitated by FotoDocument and supported by Nikon.
