Block-Making Basics

  • What is a block, and why is it important?
  • How to accurately measure the body.
  • Drafting a simple bodice with sleeves (size 12).
  • Drafting a standard skirt block (size 12).
  • Creating a made-to-measure skirt and simple bodice block using your own measurements.

From Block to Pattern

  • Transforming a block into a pattern.
  • Tracing patterns and refining with seam allowances and notches.
  • Adding annotations for professional working patterns.

Practical Examples and Techniques

  • Explore real-world examples of working patterns to understand industry standards.
  • If time permits: Create a toile of your finished blocks to test the fit and functionality. Please bring appropriate woven fabric for your toile.

  • Paper scissors
  • Tape measure
  • Dressmakers pins
  • Mechanical pencil (HB 0.5) or pencils 2H
  • Eraser and pencil sharpener
  • Around 2 metres of woven fabric (preferably lightweight calico)
  • Fabric scissors
