Join award winning food author and photographer Daniell [DL] Acken, Pink Lady short-listed food stylist Aurelia Louvet, and chef/photographer Haidee Hart for this beautiful 3 day Farm-to-Table food photography and styling retreat to be held on Salt Spring Island. Together we'll enjoy 3 full days of learning, styling, shooting, laughing and of course, eating! The focus will be on both technical and stylistic aspects of food photography as well as visual storytelling and developing a 'look' that is all your own with a round table discussion on the business side and how the industry works. Aurelia Louvet will give you all the insight into the tricks, tips, and methods that the professional food stylists use in their craft, and Haidee will be sharing her kitchen with us, teaching us seasonal recipes, and inviting us to discover the magic of Stowell Lake Farm. Add in morning yoga, meditation practice, and the glorious background of Salt Spring Island for the perfect working get-a-way! Charming accommodations in both private and shared beautiful rooms will treat you to a comfortable homeaway from home with cozy duvets and luxurious towels. All level of photographers are welcome! Whether you're an amateur or professional food blogger, pro photographer looking to break into the commercial industry, a wedding photographer looking to up their food game, or even someone who just loves posting images of gorgeous food that they eat, this course will take your food photography to the next level. Come and join us for an incredibly fun, informative and delicious weekend!

Come and learn the how-to's of professional food photography: working food with light and angles, understanding contrast, depth of field and composition as it applies to food, as well as the key equipment involved in food photography. We'll also discover the way in which your choice of props, surfaces, and other styling aspects change the look and feel of your shot. Props and styling aids will be supplied.

REGISTRATION: $1575 (private room + GST) and $1375 CDN (shared room + GST) | fee includes all meals, accommodations, props, yoga, and class instruction

We'd hate it if you couldn't come, but in the event that you can't you can always send a friend in your place. Prior notice is required so that appropriate accommodations are arranged.

Danielle (DL) Acken

Danielle (DL) Acken is a Canadian born professional food photographer currently based out of Ludlow, England and Salt Spring Island, BC. Danielle has worked with a variety of commercial food clients and has several cookbooks under her belt. She is currently working on a book for Fordhall Farm in the north of Shropshire. 

Aurelia Louvet is a food stylist and cookbook author based on Salt Spring Island. Having lived and eaten around the world, Aurelia’s work delivers a unique combination of modern North American sensibility and classic European beauty. 

Haidee Hart is an ingredient driven chef, forager, author and photographer living, growing, and creating at Stowel Lake farm, Salt Spring Island. 

ABOUT STOWEL LAKE FARM The cuisine at the farm is outstanding with the menu changing daily to incorporate ingredients from the gardens. We work with chefs who prepare each dish with care and attention to detail. Daily meals are wholesome, nourishing and beautiful. Organic whole grains, local dairy and fresh baking complement the vegetables and fruits fresh from the farm. Our healthy and delicious meals are a significant part of the retreat experience at Stowel Lake Farm.
