Is building a personal practice important for facilitators?

Building a personal mindfulness practice is key to being an effective facilitator of all Mindfulness
Without Borders’ educational programs. With this in mind, we suggest that you commit to a daily
mindfulness practice that includes the free practices found on the MWB website This way, when a
participant shares that they have a particular experience (such as it’s hard to find time,) then, you will
be able to draw from your experience. The idea is to embody a mindfulness practice that becomes a
way of life.

What do you mean by a ‘secular approach’?

It’s important to always respect and embrace the cultural, religious, sexual and personal identity of all
participants and co-facilitators. We maintain that upholding a secular approach, as objective,
professional, non-judgmental and open-minded facilitators will create a shared learning environment in
which everyone feels respected.

Why is social & emotional literacy important?

Emotional literacy is crucial for ‘whole person’ development. Research demonstrates that children of all
ages need social and emotional competencies as an important skillset to tackle our increasingly complex
and divisive world. The Mindfulness Ambassador Program was developed to do just that – to establish a
new context for learning where young people and their educators can exchange ideas, build new life
skills and better navigate the ups and downs of daily life.

What is the bigger picture & program value?

Throughout history, progress has stood on the shoulders of giants – those major innovators and change-
makers who have influenced new possibilities. In the larger context, our educational content has been
developed through evidence-based research and collaborations with leading thought-providers
including, Daniel Goleman (Emotional Intelligence), Jon Kabat-Zinn (Mindfulness-Based Stress
Reduction), Dr. Richard Davidson (Neuroscience), Collaborative for Academic Social and Emotional
Learning (CASEL), Ojai Foundation (The Way of Council), and Peter Block (The Structure of Community).
