"It was great! Very informative, well presented, engaging, and relevant to our work." Educational Psycologist (April 2020)
Allsorts Youth Project has been delivering training to professionals, and support services to LGBT+ young people for over 20 years.
Now is an opportune time to undertake training to increase knowledge and confidence in the workplace and Allsorts Training & Education Service offers high-quality online LGBT+ training.
This session is aimed at people who want to significantly increase their knowledge and confidence in understanding and supporting LGBT+ young people.
Although trans/gender identity issues will be covered in this training, this training is focussed more broadly on LGBT+ issues. We run a separate training focusing in greater depth on trans/gender identity issues.
Understanding and Supporting LGBT+ Young People
This training will explore some of the critical issues and challenges experienced by children and young people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans or in the process of exploring their sexual orientation and/or gender identity (LGBT+). Together we will examine how these issues may impact their mental health and their emotional and social wellbeing.
By the end of the training, participants will have:
- A better understanding and increased knowledge of LGBT+ experiences and lives
- Greater confidence in supporting and being an ally to LGBT+ children and young people
- Knowledge of how to create a more inclusive and safer environment for LGBT+ children and young people
Benefits and learning outcomes:
We will explore;
- Concepts of sexual orientation and gender identity
- Current terminology and language relating to sexual orientation and gender identity
- Common myths and misinformation about LGBT+ identities and people
- Relevant legislation and how this applies to an organisation providing services
- How to identify and challenge homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying, insults and language
- How to improve LGBT+ inclusion and make your organisation an LGBT+ safer space.
"It is a key training for anyone working with young people, their families and schools." Youth Advice Worker (June 2020)
