Event description

Description

Learn to use photographic sources more creatively in your portraits by working between a model and a reference photograph.

Photos are a great help in portrait painting but it's important not to become a slave to them. This course will help you interpret rather than copying photos to bring more vitality and personality to your drawing and painting.

The course will also help you bridge the gap between working from life and photos to get the best from both worlds by working alternately between a model and a photo taken from your position.

Whether you're new to portraiture or want to build on existing skills, the course will push your observational drawing or painting abilities. Over the 3 sessions Christopher Clements will teach you how to build up a portrait, working in graphite, charcoal or paint, depending on your experience and what you're comfortable with.

Getting the best out of your materials

By the end of the 3 day course you’ll have expanded your technical drawing and painting skills and have a much deeper understanding of how to take control of your artwork and develop your own creative style.

As you’d expect with any Northern Realist course, it’s a chance to spend time concentrating on your work beside like-minded friendly artists - with all the usual tea, biscuits and friendly conversation that goes with it.
