3 Steps to Your New, Powerful Authentic Brand
Thu, June 16, 2016, 6:00 PM – 9:30 PM BST
The fish that is like no other…
Every day it gets harder and harder to stand out from the crowd and remain true to yourself.
And when change happens, it can make it even harder. Sometimes we instigate change (eg: promotion, career change, returning to work etc). Other times change is thrust upon us (eg: redundancy).
When I was in finance, there was no way someone was going to call me a “boring accountant” or “spreadsheet monkey”. That kind of stereotype did me no favours. When I was looking for promotions or new roles, I knew that if I did not stand out, my CV would end up somewhere in a pile with the others.
I wanted my expertise to shine through, as well as my personality.
I worked in policy, compliance, training and implementation which was more (interesting work and) all about dealing with people. I was the “Accountant that didn’t do numbers”. Yes, that’s right! I loved the look on people’s faces when I said that.
My personal branding helped me get promotions and work on interesting and varying projects that kept me and my skills in demand as well as reflecting my personality. And anyone who worked with me can attest to the quality of my work.
When I changed my career, without the title and work structures around me, I had to rediscover my brand. Who was I in this new context? I had done a coaching degree, but I did more than coach. I wanted to effectively honour the depth and breadth of all my experience: the experience that has got me here today. Everything from media, finance, training and policy (and more!).
How could I brand myself to honour my experience, expertise and skills, and stay true to myself?
As a Communication, Leadership and Media Skills Expert, I’ve worked on so many interesting and varied projects. I’ve worked with inspiring individuals and global organisations, including the United Nations!
Throughout all if this, I have remained authentic and work within my values. And anyone who has worked with me can attest to the quality of my work.
