Event description

Description

A unique private tour of the grounds of Errol Park to visit the 31 redwood row on the estate. There are also other links to Errol Park House and Patrick Matthew, as his daughter lived in one of the Errol Park cottages in the 1890's, which will will visit during this tour. These trees are strongly suspected to be from Matthew redwood seed stock, but not planted until 1874, a year after his death. So DNA testing in the future will tell us the truth. One that is known is that drought, due to global warming, is depleting redwood trees in their native California and Scotland has become the seed reserve for these majestic trees. However, propagation is a very complex matter with redwoods, yet two people on the tour have succeeded and will share their knowledge. So all in all this is an amazing redwood arboretum well worth a visit. and as the tour ends up with 'Afternoon Tea'. Your estate guides are Fiona Ross and Howard Minnick, 3rd Great Grandson of Patrick Matthew.
