34 - Gaer Primary School outdoor project - Newport - 30 Volunteers
Fri 12 May 2017, 09:00 – 17:00 BST
The school benefits from being surrounded by lots of land but this gives rise to the challenge of maintaining and developing the different areas used by the pupils at the school.
The school’s sensory garden would benefit from having the wooden structures treated with preserver to ensure longevity. There are wooden steps, planters, seating and trellis which all requires treating. There may also be some additional tasks required to enhance the area after winter.
The walkway leading to the school is owned by the school and they would like to create a woodland area just off the path. The area is currently overgrown. To help lead with this task the school has offered to recruit their ground maintenance team to offer direction and support. Volunteers could create a log circle and willow arch in this area.
There are many areas around the school which could be enhanced by volunteers. Volunteers could help to clear out the school’s storage shed and paint the door. The school has a memorial garden which they would like maintained or enhanced. There is some fencing and planters which require treating and minor repairs. The area would benefit from some additional seating, planting and a general tidy up.
Nearby is the school’s nature’s classroom which requires some clearance and path maintenance.
The school has a small budget for materials but some fundraising may be required for materials to complete all of the tasks.
