35 - Day Service Saviours - Cardiff - 6 Volunteers
Fri 12 May 2017, 09:00 – 17:00 BST
This council run facility offers day provision for elderly people across Cardiff. The centre has approximately 20 registered users, many of whom attend the centre several times each week and suffer with dementia. The service offers many activities (skittles, music, exercise classes, games) to entertain and engage its service users while offering respite to their regular carers.
The centre has a courtyard area which is very popular with service users during the summer months. The area is looking a little bit tired with the planters and outside furniture requiring some maintenance. The centre would like to make the courtyard area as appealing as possible for their dementia patients by planting flowers which are brightly coloured and have distinctive smells. There are many plant pots already in situ which will simply require weeding, planting and possibly feeding. In the courtyard are 5 wooden benches and 1 wooden table, all of which require sanding down and staining with wood preserver. There are also 3 small cast iron tables which would benefit from painting or spray painting. Volunteers could remove the weed growing between the patio stones, trim back some of the existing plants and if comfortable could also prepare and paint the surrounding fascia boards which are now starting to flake a little.
• The centre has NO budget for materials
• Volunteers will require a budget or willingness to undertake some fundraising for materials to complete all of the tasks.
