FREE creative writing session for LGBTQ+ people in Scotland

About this event

FREE creative writing sessions hosted on the 1st Wednesday of the month (7-8.30pm). From June 1st the sessions will move to IN-PERSON events with sessions at least until September (no session in August). (Pending funding news, we will add further dates if possible)

The in-person sessions are for LGBTQ+ people living in and travelling to Edinburgh, and delivered in partnership with Open Book Reading. You can book for each session individually, with the booking details made available each month via or via the Queer Creative Writing Scotland Facebook Group.

We’ll be reading stories and poems aloud and using them to create our own writing in a gentle, guided session with Lead Reader, Jess Orr.

Weds June 1st, 7-8.30pm at 4 Duncan Place, Edinburgh, EH6 8HW

Weds July 6th, 7-8.30pm at 4 Duncan Place, Edinburgh, EH6 8HW - Scotland’s Stories Writing Showcase and Open Mic:

  • Come along to this relaxed event as we hear some of the brilliant work created by the LGBTQ+ creative writing group as well as your chance to take part in a friendly Open Mic. Over the last two years, LGBT Health and Wellbeing have been working with the charity Open Book to run monthly creative writing sessions for the local LGBTQ+ community. This year, as part of Scotland’s Year of Stories 2022, group members have created their own stories of Scotland, some of them responding to the poem ‘Scotland You’re No Mine’ by the Edinburgh Makar Hannah Lavery. Our Stories showcase will be followed by an Open Mic session in which anyone is welcome to take part. Food, soft drinks and a friendly welcome all provided. Friends and allies welcome.

(no session in August)

Weds September 7th, 7-8.30pm at 4 Duncan Place, Edinburgh, EH6 8HW
