Event description

Description

The Event:

36 Art (Art Law Team at The 36 Group) are hosting an expert panel discussion on the risks and solutions for managing high value art on behalf of private clients.

The Panel Discussion:

Our specialists will look at two case scenarios, one involving a disputed will and the other a divorce scenario and will explain the potential art market pitfalls and give real case examples.

Who should come?

This event is relevant for anyone who represents clients who are art collectors, or clients who have inherited artworks or are going to inherit artworks, clients who have acquired art through a divorce or are simply seeking to know the value of their assets or wish to manage their assets within trust structures or are seeking tax advice on their assets.

With all high value art there are inherent risks. Art is unlike any other asset as it carries a high risk of non-obvious issues or defects, such as it could be fake or forgery (a very common problem for the market place). Other common problems include wrong attributions, potential title disputes, stolen artworks, defective condition, customs issues and cultural heritage issues.

Who are the Panel?

We have invited the experts from the Art Due Diligence Group (www.artduediligencegroup.com):

- Ariane Moser (of Artive) - a specialist adviser on title checks and provenance research. (Artive has a title checking database like the Art Loss Register).

- Francis Eastaugh (of Art Analysis and Research) - a forensic scientist, whose scientific testing and research assists with authentication and attribution issues. His company led the investigations into the fakes created by the Beltracchi Gang and has uncovered many fakes as well as genuine works.

- Christopher Marinello (of Art Recovery) - a specialist in recovering stolen artworks and dealing with restituted artworks. Christopher has successfully returned over £250 million worth of stolen and restituted artworks; with many high profile cases to his name; such as his involment in the Gurlitt (Nazi looted treasures case).

- Frank Morey (of Virtus Risk Ltd) - a director of a security and intelligence company that assists with KYC and security issues. Frank runs a team of ex SBS servicemen and intelligence officers who provide detailed due diligence for companies and high value assets.

- Legal input will be led by Simon Harding of 36 Art ( a member of the Art Law Team) and Daniel Taylor of Taylor Hamptons Solicitors (a reputation management and defamation law specialist as well as litigation and ADR).

Who is invited?

This event is for specialist solicitors in the areas of private client, tax, trusts, wills and probate, commercial law, art law and cultural property, banking, IP and matrimonial finance law, all of whom have high net worth clients or cases involving art.

We have also invited many specialists across the arts industry - valuers, loss adjusters, insurers, art advisers, customs advisers and specialist shippers.
