37 - Millbank Primary School - Cardiff - 15 Volunteers
Fri 12 May 2017, 09:00 – 17:00 BST
This Primary School located in Ely, Cardiff would like employee volunteer help to improve several outside areas including their pond area.
The pond liner is damaged and no longer holds water. Volunteers could repair the pond by re-lining it and possibly making it bigger as its currently very small. The pond was teaming with life before the liner was damaged. The area surrounding the pond is becoming overgrown and requires weeding and the brambles cutting back. The tyre-planters could be planted and if possible the whole area made more interactive for children. Perhaps a digging area for the children could be created and any other ideas the volunteers have could be suggested and taken forward. The children are going to create some designs of what they would like to see in the pond garden area.
There are several tyre-planters scattered around the school grounds which require topping up and planting. The school would like many of them planted with herbs. The forest school area requires some improvements to make it more usable. The area is currently very muddy as it has no paths laid, there is some cutting back to do as well as planting and creating a vegetable area and compost area. If volunteers have basic woodwork skills they could also make a small gate for the entrance to the area as there is a fence in situ but no gate on it. Employee volunteers could work side by side parent volunteers to complete this project.
The School PTA would undertake some fundraising activities to help pay for materials, volunteers may also have to fundraise to purchase materials.
