Our 3-day Young Writers’ Summer Sessions take place across the North East, for young people to work on exciting creative writing projects.

Tuesday 9 – Thursday 11 August, 12pm-5pm each dayVenue: Recoco, Floor 2, 12:00-15:30Loft Studios, 15:30-17:00Open to: ages 12-19If you would like to have a go at creating your own lyrics or writing your own rap, these are the summer sessions for you! Jennie Brewis, professional songwriter and member of The Cornshed Sisters, will be leading the programme with rapper Robin Reza. You’ll learn how to write songs and raps, developing your own lyrics and melodies, and each day you’ll visit a professional recording studio to start bringing your tracks to life!You don’t need any experience to take part, just bring along your creativity and experiment with words and music in a fun, supportive environment. If you play an instrument, you are welcome to bring that too. We’ll work towards recording our own songs at the end of the week! During term-time we run a weekly Young Songwriters Group at Loft Studios from 4.30pm-6pm. Our summer programme is a great way to meet other young writers and find out more about our regular young writers’ programmes.

Tickets are free, but if you’re able to, please consider making a donation. Your money will support our free creative writing programmes for 12-25 year olds, which run throughout the year, including in many areas where there are fewer opportunities.The aim of all our work is to help young people to realise their potential. We develop skills, nurture talent and encourage young people to get involved and have a go at creative writing. We create environments where young writers can make friends, develop their confidence, try out new things and have fun!Our suggested donation is £25, but anything you can give will enable us to help young people to make brilliant work. Thank you!
