About this event

  • Event lasts 10 hours

We are entering a decade where capital is not only harder to access but increasingly political. In this fractured global landscape, Our region; The Eastern Africa finds itself at the crossroads of shifting capital flows, contested energy, trade and industrial policies, and intensifying geopolitical alignment.

This year’s Annual Lecture examines the complex interplay between finance, trade energy, and geopolitics, and how it is reshaping the way capital is deployed across East Africa.

Where once investment strategies could rely on the predictability of multilateral finance and commodity cycles, today’s decision-makers must navigate a very different terrain.

East African governments are simultaneously de-risking their macro outlook, pursuing regional integration, and brokering new trade and energy partnerships while balancing demands for fiscal space, political stability, and inclusive growth.

For CEOs, asset managers, and private capital leaders, the questions are no longer just about access and returns. They are:

  • What does alignment look like in a world of economic fragmentation?
  • How do you assess geopolitical risk in a region caught between major powers?
  • What capital structures will unlock long-term value in energy, logistics, and digital infrastructure without being overexposed to political volatility?
  • How can private capital play a constructive role, while also protecting stakeholder value?
  • Whether based in London, Paris, New York, Mauritius, Dubai, or Johannesburg, the investment community must rethink its playbook: the rules of engagement are evolving, and neutrality is no longer an option.

The lecture delivered by one of the region's leading economist will be followed by responses and country roundtables featuring: Mauritius, Ethiopia, DRC and Rwanda.

The EAA Annual lecture is a prominent annual event when we pause to reflect, to listen, and to engage with big ideas shaping our region - Join us by registering your interest here: For more information: info@eaa-lon.co.uk
